the emphasis
Hey, I’m Emily! I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and I’m still at it. I seek to glorify God with everything I do, whether it’s art-related or not.
Here’s the emphasis:
Jesus saves. And you need to know about it.
Why is it so important that I share my religious beliefs here of all places? My beliefs shouldn’t affect anyone else, right? But actually, that’s not even my choice. Christianity affects everyone whether I say it or not. What sets it apart from all other belief systems is that it’s true. Who am I to shrink Christianity down to just a thing that I choose to believe? God exists. He created everything, including us. Though humans have rejected God, he wants to bring us back into a relationship with him through his Son, Jesus, who took our death sentence on himself in an indescribably painful act of love… so that those who believe could come into his kingdom one day and live forever with him.
And I’m sharing this with you right now because God chose to give me that life. Did I deserve it? Not even a little bit. Do I understand why God does the things he does? Not always. Do I know that God is my King, Father and Savior? Without a doubt.
Being a Christian doesn’t mean being perfect. Rather, it means that even in my sin and certain death, Jesus has gifted me with his righteousness and allowed me to have eternal life instead. This wasn’t because I found him and chose him. He did it all, and I simply turned to him in faith.
He can do the same for you, too, even if you’ve done terrible things. God is all-powerful, and he knows what he’s doing. All you need to do—all you can do to receive the gift—is repent and believe. The Bible says that “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, ESV). You can’t earn your salvation by punishing yourself or trying harder to do good things. It’s not possible to pull yourself out of the hole you’ve dug. Ask God. He’ll show you what to do.
If you really just don’t understand what Christianity or God or the Bible is all about, it’s okay! You have to start somewhere. Let me suggest that you buy a copy of the Bible for five bucks on Amazon. When in doubt, try starting with the Gospel of John. It may feel confusing at first, but just start by reading it. You may begin to understand just a little more what it’s all about…and why it is quite literally a matter of life and death.
And that’s my emphasis. That’s what it’s all about. Enjoy the art!
Emily
